Episode 874 – Five More List Building Tips
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute. The entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money, with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multimillionaire, Tom Antion.

[00:00:24] Hey everybody! It's Tom here with episode 874 of Screw the Commute podcast. This is part two of our quick two part list building series, but also want to make it very clear to you. I want you to join the List Building Summit for free at screwthecommute.com/lbs, where as soon as you register, you get a $500 email marketing masterclass from me. And then if you do this right away, you'll get in the next day or so. You can have my list building session at the summit for free. Now they also have a thing called a Premium pass, where you can upgrade and get the all the sessions from all the speakers permanently. So check that out after you go there at screwthecommute.com/lbs for list building summit. And also all this is based on my best selling e-book, screwthecommute.com/listbuilding, which is the ultimate guide to list building. All right, I got some killer tips here for you today. Five more of them. All right. The first thing is called a content locker. This is a very cool thing. I know they have them as plug ins for WordPress. Where? You get an article? An example is I have an article like the 15 mistakes people make on their website counting down. Now, most of them are not in any particular order. So I go 15, 14, 13 and people are like, wow, I'm doing that, or I'm doing a good job at that, or I'm messing this up, I'm going to fix all these things, and I'm counting down the list where I'm sucking that person in really deep because it's all great information.

[00:02:01] But when it gets down to the last one, the number one mistake people make. They have to either share it or opt in to get the number one mistake, and by that time, the curiosity effect has killed them and they opt in. All right. So that's called a content locker. All right. The next one is quizzes. People love quizzes. And the way you build the list is that they have to opt in to get the results to see if they pass the quizzes. Okay, so there's all kinds of quiz building software you can do to do this, but this is a very powerful way. Whenever people have the zeigarnik technique, which I've talked about a lot in copywriting, where the curiosity kills in they they took the quiz and now they want to know, oh, did I pass did I not what I, you know, all these things so they opt in to get the, the results. All right. This next one is super super powerful. It's contests. Now a warning here is don't accidentally turn into a lottery and have the feds show up at your door.

[00:03:06] All right? You can't charge for this stuff. And some states don't allow them at all. You see? Void where prohibited by law, that kind of thing. But anyway, contests are massively powerful. Some tip on a contest is don't give a prize for the contest like an iPhone or cash or something, because you'll only get people that want to get the iPhone or cash, and they could care less about what you do. Make sure the prize has to do with what you sell, because you could get thousands and thousands of subscribers who want to win an iPhone, but then they immediately unsubscribe. So you wasted the money on the iPhone and the contest and everything. So make sure the prize is something that you sell or you do. So it's related but contest massive way. And there's the way it goes viral. And this is from my kickstart viral e-book. And that screwthecommute.com/viral is that. They get if, you know they get one chance to win if they join your contest, but they get 20 chances to win if they refer somebody else that that. Joins the contest that makes it go viral. See if they only got one extra chance to win for everybody they referred. Well, they're just creating their own competition to win. But each one that they refer, that's that shows up and registers.

[00:04:31] They get 20 chances to win. So it's really worth it for them to spread the word. And all of them have to opt in to to your list. And that's a list building technique. Massive. Now this next one, you don't see it as much anymore, but it's very powerful. It's called Co-registration. This is where someone else is signing up, somebody to their newsletter, and then after they sign up to their newsletter, they suggest that they sign up to your newsletter or some other thing, and some of them will charge you 10 or $0.15 per person. Or it could be more if it's a real popular thing. But that's called co-registration, and I've done a lot of that in my past. Just make sure that the company that's giving you this option is not spamming people. You know, you want to make sure it's a legit operation. Co-registration it's called now the last one. And some people say, oh, I hate this, I hate this, and it's pop up boxes. I got to tell you that, um. Whether you like them or not. They work all right. And so if you want to build your list, you've got to get over what you like and do what people, what works with people. And so there's all kinds of pop up boxes. There's light boxes that dim the background and make the sign up just, you know, right in front of you.

[00:05:52] They're moving. There's pop unders where they read a lot of the text and stuff before the pop up appears, so that they feel value before the pop up shows, whatever it is. Here's a story from my Antion.com site. So I was signing up. I think it was 180 people a week from my just normal sign up box. As soon as I went to the pop up box, it it went to 400 plus people a week. Okay, so it more than doubled now with pop up boxes. Just like any sign up opt in area, you have to get a lot of benefits now because everybody on earth is is hitting people up to to opt in and they're getting buried with emails. So you got to put lots of benefits near the sign up area. Okay. Well there you go. So that's part two. But I highly encourage you. You go to the list Building summit. screwthecommute.com/lbs and get lots of other perspectives on this. Plus just for registering, you get my $500 email marketing masterclass and it will blow you away. I'm telling you, it's blown away thousands of other people. And then of course, this is all based on my best selling e-book, The Ultimate Guide to List Building and screwthecommute.com/listbuilding. All right, we'll catch you all in the next episode. See you later.
