Episode 806 - ASMR
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute. The entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money, with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multimillionaire, Tom Antion.

[00:00:24] Hey everybody, it's Tom here with episode 806 of Screw the Commute podcast. Today, we're going to talk about becoming an ASMR creator. Now, if you don't know what ASMR is, then you're going to find out on this episode and you may find that it's perfect for you. Now, for me, I don't want anything to do with it. Well, unless I was an ASMR eating creator and then I might like it. So we'll tell you about that in a minute. Hope you to miss Episode 805. That was the art of Rizz, and that's basically short for charisma. We're going to talk about how you can attract business to you and how you can increase your charisma. That's what I talked about in that episode, Episode 805. And of course, episode 804 was Maximize your income from speaking engagements. And of course, when you want to get to a back episode, you go to screwthecommute.com, slash, then the episode number maximize income from speaking 804. The Art of Charisma 805 and today is 806. ASMR. All right, pick up a copy of our automation book at screwthecommute.com/automatefree and hey I got hacked on Facebook so do not trust anything you see from me until further notice from Facebook. Yeah, I got totally sacked. And then Facebook's recovery method is just ridiculous. Stupid, broken just puts you in a circle you can't get out of and you can't talk to anybody. So we're trying to work on that.

[00:02:02] All right, let's get into ASMR. So what is that and how can you use it to make money? Well, ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. Okay. And that term was supposedly coined by a lady named Jennifer Allen. And she explained, experiencing therapeutic brain tingles from watching videos. Now, apparently about 20% of the population get these brain tingles from watching and listening to various kinds of videos. I mean, they even got a nickname, Tingle Heads. All right. Now, I'm telling you, this is serious stuff and enormous amounts of money involved here, folks. So don't dismiss this yet. I mean. I mean, I know it sounds too woo woo for Tom Antion to be talking about, but listen to this. Small business trends says that ASMR video creation is one of the top 19 profitable YouTube niches. Where do you hear some of the money these people are making now? Some, however, say that many of the creators are making more money by moving to TikTok and doing live streaming where people can give them coins in exchange that they can exchange for money. And speaking of money, I think the top ASMR creators pulling in half $1 million a month. All right. So so this is not playtime here. And how about this? Many ASMR creators don't even talk. They might tap their fingernails or play bird tweets over and over again. I mean, I'm laughing, but that money is serious. And yeah, I know it sounds weird and I'm laughing, but I mean, who am I to judge? I mean, heck, I cry when watching a America's Got Talent videos.

[00:04:05] I don't get any tingling, though. I'm just wondering, are these 20% of the people so desperate for good feelings that they resort to watching these videos and the people that respond? This 20% of the people that respond to this kind of audio and visual stimuli many times report feeling tingling and many times goosebumps that spread across their head or neck. And some feel sensations in their arms or legs or spine. They claim they get a sparkly, effervescent feeling that relaxes them. And just because I'm one of the 80% of the population that doesn't experience ASMR, it doesn't mean it's not real. There's been some studies done. And smeck and wigs in 2022 and Poerio in 2018. They found that these videos improve people's moods and alleviated symptoms of insomnia and depression and increased their mood and relaxation, things like that. However, there is a dark side to all of this, and it's a specialized form of ASMR called Mukbang or Mukbang Mukbang, and most of which I might add, is fake. So Mukbang was developed in South Korea around 2010, and it's basically a food show where the host eats food or talks or interacts with the audiences either on video or live streaming. Now it started to get so crazy to the point that Korean government issued health warnings against it.

[00:05:51] See, some mukbangs are perfectly innocent and introducing new foods and and just eating. And the ASMR aspect kicks in for some people. Listen to this. With the slurping or chewing sounds, that's all fine. The big fake ones, though, pretend to eat enormous quantities of food in a short period of time. But the thing is, they're fake. Most of them with creative editing, they're spitting the food out between bites. They cut it real quick and put music and everything, and. And they're not really eating all this stuff and they never seem to get fat. But a few of them are real. And the guy named Nikocado Avocado gained 400 pounds and then after his health took a dive, he's apparently switched to telling people to live healthier lifestyles. Now these ASMR mukbangs are most likely contributing to lots of eating disorders. Hence the the health warning. But so if you decide to do ASMR, please don't get in that arena right now anyway. Many of these videos get many millions of views and are relatively easy to create and there's a massive wide variety of these types of videos which you can just go on YouTube, type in ASMR and you'll see tons of different ones. Like I said earlier, many don't even require you to talk. Some people whisper during them, some pretend to put makeup on you. I mean, some just tap things with their fingernails. I mean, it's just crazy to me. And see, because I know people like me.

[00:07:35] And maybe to you it sounds crazy, but there's no question enormous amounts of money is being made from ad revenue with these videos. Although it's secretive, Google's secretive and nothing. This is nothing more than an educated guess that a lot of people like me kind of know about. But, you know, you can make about $7 per thousand views. And many people say if you're getting consistent large number of views, you can get a better deal than that. But but even at that rate, 1 million views equals $7,000 for that one video. Now, when you consider many of these creators get highly loyal followings and get views, consistent views in the millions, that's a lot of money just for pretending to stuff your face or tapping on some makeup bottles. Now, the makeup bottles don't interest me that much, but I don't know. This episode is making me kind of hungry. Hungry. So I'll end it here. But. But something to look into. It's something that you may even be one of the 20% that enjoys this stuff. And and so it can be a, you know, it's just my my job to bring entrepreneurial things to you that you can do from home. All right. Man, I'm hungry.
