What is a private label information product? It’s a product produced by someone else and that person or company sells you the “rights” to sell the product under your name as if you created it. You will frequently see the abbreviation PLR which stands for Private Label Rights. These could be eBooks, audio or video but the great majority are eBooks.

Main Event
Now let’s get to the main event. Private label products. I’m going to approach this from the digital products angle. There are other types of private label products, but for this discussion we are primarily going to talk about information products either in the format of eBooks, audio or video.
First what is a private label information product? It’s a product produced by someone else and that person or company sells you the “rights” to sell the product under your name as if you created it. You will frequently see the abbreviation PLR which stands for Private Label Rights. These could be eBooks, audio or video but the great majority are eBooks.
Yes, this is a pretty much instant way to become an author, but I highly suggest you edit any PLR products you get to make them your own. I have no problem with the authenticity of using this method to create products fast so long as you customize the product. I think it’s a dangerous idea if you want to build your total credibility on only using PLR products because eventually you will get found out as a non-expert on the topic and your credibility will go down the tubes.
One way I frequently use PLR eBooks is just to create my outline. It has nothing to do with me knowing or being expert in the topic. It’s just way faster and cheaper for someone to rough out the chapters and organize the topics covered than for me to sit down and do it myself or to hire someone else….who I would have to waste time holding their hand anyway…..So, this way I get a roughed-out book cheap and fast.
So, what exactly are you buying when you buy a PLR product? That depends. Each company or person who produces these kinds of products have their own set of rights they are selling. Not all are the same even from the same product producer. So, you must check for each product your purchase.
WHAT RIGHTS ARE YOU BUYING?
Right now I’m going to go through a list of possible rights you could be purchasing and what they mean.
Many PLR sites will give you a list of the rights that go along either for their entire site or for an individual product. You either have or don’t have the right to do the following:
Edit the product – That means you can change it any way you want. You can add or delete sections of it to customize it.
Rename the product – This allows you to Change the title. If you do change the title, you may have to edit mentions of the title throughout the product.
Sell it for x number of dollars – This means you can put it out for any price you want. Some rights may restrict you from selling it either below or above a certain price.
You can bundle the product – This means you can put the product in a package deal with other products.
You can offer the product as a bonus – This means you can sell another product and give this away with the purchase of the other product.
You can use the product to create other products – For instance, you could use the information in an eBook to create a podcast, MP3 file, video or webinar if you wanted.
You can use the product as a lead magnet i.e. if someone opts in to your list, you can give it to them for giving you their email address.
You can add the product to a paid membership site
You can add the product to a free membership site.
You can sell it through an auction site.
You can alter the graphics in the product or included with the product.
You can publish the product as web content
There may be other rights being sold. Make sure you understand what rights you are buying.
I’m not saying you are allowed to do all these things with a PLR product you buy. I’m just saying you just have to check to see what they allow and what they don’t allow before you make the decision to purchase.
WHAT COMES WITH THE PRODUCT?
PLR products range from a simple plain text file to a full-blown website, you’ll probably get the product in a bunch of formats, sales page and all the bells and whistles.
Here are some of the things better PLR companies include in addition to the base product you will sell:
They give you a website, and a sales page i.e. they write the advertising copy for you, but that doesn’t mean their copy is good or sounds like you. You should always continue to study copywriting https://www.CopyWriting901.com and we’ll have that in the show notes for episode….this is episode 55, But just in case you’re wondering I covered copywriting in episode 13. OK, they might give you a download page for the product, a thank you page to display after someone has bought the product ….many times the thank you page is the same as the download page. They might give you sales audio files, sales videos, and all of the graphics. Some give you all the graphics in various sizes and formats to make it easy for you to adapt them to your website’s color scheme and size.
While I’m talking about graphics lets take a moment to review the kinds of files you are likely to get in a good PLR product. For the graphics you are most likely to get .png, .jpg and PSD which are Photoshop files. For the text you might get three formats. Plain text, Microsoft Word and PDF. I guess it’s possible you’ll get some native mac formats, but I don’t see that too often. For webpages most likely you’ll get HTML files. For audios you probably will get mp3 files and maybe the higher quality .wav format. I think mac is formatted in .aiff, but macs can handle both mp3 and .wav which are the most common. For video you’ll get mp4 and if you see .AVI you should know the file size is enormous. You might on occasion see .flv which is an older format not used as much anymore. Mostly for video you will see MP4.
If you’ve chosen a company that gives you all or most of the rights to these files, you can edit them however you want. Like I said above, sometimes I don’t use anything but the product just to get a quick outline that saves me time.

Master resale rights
Now let’s talk about Master Resale Rights. First, let’s be clear. In a basic Private Label Rights deal, you are purchasing the rights to a product. You can change it all around and you can sell it to other people to use that specific product for themselves. What you are NOT doing is selling the person the rights to do the same thing you just did, i.e. just because they bought the product from you to use themselves, your customer does NOT have the right to edit the product and put it out under their name.
If you buy Master Resale Rights and pay a higher fee to the original product producer, ….and these rights may not be available. You have to check. But if they are, you can sell the PLR rights to your customers just like the original product producer sold to you. Now your customer can edit the product and put it out under their name. If you didn’t catch this back up and listen to the last few minutes again. Bottom line is if you buy master resale rights you can sell PLR rights just like the original producer of the product and get more money for them than just selling the product alone.
OK. These companies come and go, but the one I’ve been dealing with lately is http://www.HQPLRStore.com I’ll have it in the show note for episode 55, but there are hundreds of these companies out there covering thousands of topics.
So, if you want a super quick way to get a product that you can make your own, PLR is the way to go.
