I'm going to save you a ton of money today, give you lots of options and some are PC only, but many are both Mac and PC. And it's not just software, it's software as a service. So you just log on. So it doesn't matter if you're on a Mac or PC or Linux or whatever else. All right. [00:01:26] All right. Let's get to the main event, a bunch of free software software as a service. Now, I don't use every one of these things. You couldn't possibly or it would be stupid because some are duplicates or near duplicates. So I'm going to give them to you and then you can check them out and pick the ones that you like for yourself. So let's go. And there's aren't any particular order here that's not alphabetical, although I'm starting with audio.

[00:01:52] So Audacity is a well known free audio editing program. Many people do their podcast on it, so that's that's something you can grab. Let's see, LMS helps you create music. So that's a software as a service, I believe another one if you're an aspiring DJ is mics. All right. So there's three audio programs for you. All right, let's jump into video. Davinci Resolve video editor is considered a very, very powerful editor, but it does have a large learning curve. So just let you know about that. And these are all free folks, by the way. Kdenlive. That's the letter K And then D and Live. Is a video editor supposed to be way easier? So if you're a beginner, it might be a good one to check that one out. Now this is a video related thing that's been around a long time called Handbrake, and it converts your video files from different, you know, a lot of times you get something off of your cell phone. It's if it's an iPhone, it's a MOV file and maybe you want to convert it to an MP4 file, which is more universal. So handbrake is free and can do that for you. Now, this is something under development that's supposed to be a super easy, super powerful video editor. It's in beta right now called Olive, so you can check that out. And of course people were raving about Capcut. It has lots of cool things and it's owned by TikTok, so it's very compatible with that.

[00:03:29] Openshot is video editor. That's very easy. It's got a very small learning curve. Of course, a lot of these really small learning curves, you can't do the fanciest stuff, but at least you can get started. And they're free. Now, this is let's see, next thing is screencast o matic. Now some of these things I don't, you know, I could have put in one category another, I could have just put that in the graphics category. But I believe you can do up to a certain amount of time of screen capture video with that one. So that's called screencast O matic. All right, so let's jump to something different now. Security, a lot of people are using this brave browser that is connected to Tor, which is called The Onion browser. Now this is I'm not going to get into the dark web and all this stuff, but these can can keep your really, really anonymous. So check that out. Brave browser that's connected to Tor some other security things. Avast Antivirus is one I think awards for being a free antivirus now Proton VPN. Now you've heard me on other episodes talk about virtual private networks and I tell you don't get a free one. Well, if you can't afford one. Proton VPN is considered one of the best free ones, so it's not as good as all the paid ones, but it's a way to get started and, you know, hide your identity, basically. Let's see, another security thing is Veracrypt.

[00:05:04] Veracrypt. It lets you encrypt parts or all of your computer, the stuff on your computer. So even if somebody gets hacked, you, they can't figure out what you're talking about because veracrypt And then the password managers, of course, I love Roboform, which is a paid thing. I don't know if they have a free version or not, but bitwarden. Bitwarden is a password, a free password manager. And even though I tell you some of these things are free, many of them do have premium upgrades. But you know, for instance Canva. I think I have the premium upgrade, but I don't think I even use any of the premium features. It has so many great features. The free version. So, so but anyway, you can check if you want to upgrade some of these programs. All right. Speaking of graphics and speaking of Canva, this is the graphics section. So you got Canva, which everybody loves. Now, here's an interesting one. Photo sketcher, that's photo sketcher. It'll turn a picture into a painting. That's pretty cool, right? Especially for free. Another alternative, too. Here's two alternatives to Photoshop. Gimp is one gimp and paint.net. So if you can't afford Photoshop, there's two free ones for you. Now, what I love for photo manipulation is I picky IPCC. That's the one I use all the time. And there's one for digital artists called Krita CR. I don't know if it's Krita or Krita, but it's spelled Krita and it's specifically for digital artists, and that's not me.

[00:06:50] All right, let's see another graphics program. I got my notes here. Image class is an image viewer for Windows. It's supposed to have more features than the basic image. Viewer Inkscape is an alternative for Adobe illustrator, but it does have a large learning curve. Greenshot and Share X are both screen capture for graphics they'll do. A lot of times I'm trying to capture a whole page and I had to like capture part of it, scroll down, capture another and try to paste them together. I mean, it's terrible. So some of these take care of that problem for you. All right. Let's get into some productivity things. Hacks, the program, everything. Is a much better search function for Windows computers. I don't know what it is for a mac, but everything helps you search better because, you know the search sucks in Windows 10. I just try to find stuff and Windows 7 was better than Windows 10 for me to find stuff. Now if here's three different alternatives to Microsoft Office. If you can't afford or you don't want to support Microsoft Libre, Office, only Office and Open office are all highly regarded alternatives to Microsoft Office. I use a thing. These are all under productivity hacks I use not keyboard maestro, but oh shoot. As much as I love it, I can't think of the name of it. But anyway, it's paid so it doesn't belong in here anyway. But there's a thing called phrase express that kind of recognizes what you're trying to type and then gives you a chance to just hit a button and it types the whole thing for you.

[00:08:35] I can't believe I can't remember. One of my favorite programs all time must be getting old. Okay, so that's phrase phrase express. Now, this one, this productivity hack is is is a program called teamviewer. It allows you to take over someone else's computer remotely, of course, with their permission. But and so this is like for me, who has me and my guys and girls here that have to help other people with their computer. It used to drive us crazy when they're clueless, they don't even know how to turn it on. And. And we're trying to help them. And they say, Well, I clicked here. Well, where did you click We can't See you. So with Teamviewer we can actually take over your screen and help you. Now be careful who you let do this, of course, But if you need to help people, or maybe you need your relatives or your older relatives need help, go install teamviewer on their computer and let them at least be able to turn it on. And then you can just take over their computer and fix whatever their problem is without having to take three hours to try to get them to tell you what's going on. I've actually had people have to take a picture of their their screen and email it to me and I was like, I'm going to shoot myself. But teen viewers are a real good one for that.

[00:10:01] Okay, let's see where I'm at here. Now, Helpdesk software, this is also a productivity hack. Zendesk is a very well known, but it's a paid service. So Freshdesk will allow you to put helpdesk software so your customers can get answers day or night to do lists. Wunderlist Wunderlist is a to do list program. Be careful if you give it to your spouse because they might overuse it. I don't know. Another very popular project management thing is Trello, Trello and then Freemind is a free mind mapping software. Okay, let's get into eCommerce, Google Trends and Google Keyword Planner because I'm such a freak on keyword research for you. That's the biggest mistake in all the years I've been teaching this that people make. They don't do their keyword research. So there's two free things for you Travel, Google Earth and Google Maps. Use them all the time. When I want to see where I'm going, where how far it is, how long it's going to take, file management and backup. Well, we use Wetransfer to transfer files up to two gigabytes for free. Never, never actually paid for the wheat transfer in all the years I've been using it. Dropbox, a lot of you've heard of that. They have free up to two gigabytes I think, for storage and another one called iDrive. And of course you might have iCloud as part of your buying an iPhone or iPad or something. All right, let's see, what's the next thing? Writing and publishing Trelby is a program to help people write for screenwriters screenplays.

[00:11:48] Scribus is a desktop publishing software. Scribus Trelby is Trelby. Then Kindle Create is what we use all the time to make Kindle ebooks. It's free, it's for Mac or PC and then PDF creator. If you don't have Adobe or don't want to pay for Adobe, there's a way to make a PDF file. All right. Messaging. Well of course everybody knows about Zoom. Skype is still hanging in there. And but there's another kid on the block called Discord and it's a messaging software, very popular. And then some miscellaneous ones for we wrap it up here is virtual box is something that it can you can put another operating system on your computer but it's very I mean you got to be a little bit of a techie to use this thing. I know at times we wanted to run windows on a mac and Mac and I don't know, on Windows. I remember we fooled with it for that kind of stuff for a while, but I just don't have use for that very often now. For streaming free is OBS studio again, takes a little tech work to set it up, but it's free high quality streaming software. Vlc Media player. I've been using it for years and years and years because it plays just about anything you can throw at it. So it'll play videos and audios and weird formats and everything. Vlc Media Player then for money management Gnucash I think it's Gnucash and you cash for money management and then if you want to check out your computer info is now it's only for windows, I believe for that one because Macs have that kind of stuff I think installed.

[00:13:31] And there you go. There's I don't know how many I told you there 50 different things. I don't know. But just that will save you a ton of money if you're, you know, I'd rather you. I do want you to have good stuff. That's when it's important, like shopping carts and email programs, things like that. But there's some things you just don't need to pay for that people just want you to be a member. Like, for instance, I picky. I don't even think I don't even think I have an account there. I just just go there and play with it and do my graphics work. And then they make their money from ads. So there's lots of those places out there. And as long as it's not something critical. Go to your business, then go for it. You know, I'm the first one who wants you to save some money. All right?
