Episode 737 – Search Tips
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute. The entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money, with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multimillionaire, Tom Antion.

[00:00:24] Hey everybody, it's Tom here with episode 737 of Screw the Commute podcast. Today, I'm going to talk about search tips. Now, wouldn't it be nice if you could easily find what you're searching for in the search engines? Mostly Google. I get it. Well, today I'm going to give you some practical tips on finding stuff fast while searching. All right. Hope you didn't miss Episode 736. That was affiliate commissions. That was kind of a rant on protecting yourself to make sure you get paid. And a really good tip when you're dealing with any kind of company so that they don't mess with you. Episode 736 Anytime you want to get to a back episode, you go to screwthecommute.com and then forward slash and then the episode number. That was 736. Make sure you follow me on TikTok at tiktok.com/@digitalmultimillionaire and download a copy of our automation book at screwthecommute.com/automatefree.

[00:01:18] All right, let's get to the main event. Being successful in business is more than just having a great idea and selling it to people. Being efficient in business gives you a much greater chance to be profitable because you aren't wasting time on things that don't bring in money. Why do you think I pushed so hard for you to download my free business automation book? I just told you, screwthecommute.com/automatefree. Well, it's because I want you spending more time on revenue generating things rather than non revenue generating things.

[00:01:54] And and yeah, many non revenue generating things on the face value are the basis of revenue generating things. And I'll give you an example. Let's say you're researching websites that you can approach about being an affiliate for your product. Well, that's certainly very important and eventually becomes revenue generating because you found all these sites that will promote you. But if you could do that research in an hour instead of four hours. All right. Don't you think that's more efficient and we'll get you more money faster and by being more efficient, maybe you still spend the four hours, but end up with five times more prospects, which will eventually lead to lots more money for you. So anyway, download that darn automation book, it's screwthecommute.com/automatefree. But that's not what today's episode is going to concentrate on. I'm going to give you some practical tips that will help you when you're searching for something. And these have been around for years, but it's likely that, you know, no one ever told you about them until today. And make sure you pass this around to your friends, too. They'll love you for it. And even if you just use a few of them, it's going to totally change the way you search for things for the better. All right. Let's look at the first thing. I call it competition all the time. People tell me they searched something on Google and got 42 billion results or some ungodly high number.

[00:03:30] All right. So so let's say they searched for public speaking. I just did it this morning and I got 2 billion, 30 million results. Okay. Then I did the search and I put quotation marks around the term public speaking, and I got about 56,800,000 results. Well, I mean, these are all giant numbers. I get that. But that's 36. 36 times less results. So what's going on here? See, when you search without quotation marks, you're getting results where the search terms are on the page, but not necessarily together on the page. And these numbers I'm talking about is the number of pages that your search term is on. So for public speaking, you could have a page that reads something like this. Here we go. At this month's public meeting, we will have Tom Antion who will be speaking about his new book, Highly Educated Idiots. Okay, I am working on that book. See the word public and the word speaking are both on the page. I said public meeting, and then I said, Tom will be speaking. They're both on that page. But by them not being together, it changes the entire meaning of someone searching for public speaking the skill. So here's what you do. If you're looking for something exact, put quotation marks around it. It's very simple, folks. All right. Next, let's say you're searching for something that you know is on a particular website and maybe they don't have a search function or maybe the search function isn't any good on that site.

[00:05:26] And I got to tell you, there's lots of crappy search functions on websites that don't bring up what you're looking for. So here's how you search that site. You use your search term, then the word site site and then a colon. No spaces between it. Site colon and then the site you're searching. So go ahead try it when you can. You'll go to site colon antion.com and put whatever you're searching do public speaking again because that's a lot about on that site. So it would be public speaking. Space site colon antion.com with no spaces in any of that and the only results you'll get are from antion.com. So use these things, folks. And I'm going to tell you, you're going to thank me for it. Okay, Here's another one for you and then I'm going to give you a link to a site that's got 20 of them. All right. Let's say you're searching for something, but you don't want to waste your time sifting through results. That don't make sense for you? Oh, actually, I have two more for you. All right. Let's say you were interested in. In the field of training. Well, if you just search for training, you'll get all kinds of results, like dog training and potty training and everything else.

[00:06:49] So whenever you search and you don't want certain words in the results, just put a dash or a minus sign and then the word that you don't want to get in the results. That saved me tons over the years. So you're saying I want results on this, but not if it has this word in it or words. You can put multiple minuses in there too. So lots of different words can be excluded from your results. All right. All right. Here's the last one. And I'll bet you never knew about this one. All right. Let's say you like a certain website, but it's giving you all it can, and you want to find sites like it. So you just type related colon and then the website. So I happen to like Upwork.com, which used to be elance.com, where you could hire freelance people. But I thought, you know, it would be nice if I got bids from a lot of, lot of people on my projects. So I put related colon upwork.com and I'm going to get results that are sites that are similar. Look what I got. Freelancer.com craigslist.com. Fiverr.com. Flexjobs.com. I didn't I didn't even know about some of these sites until I did this this related thing for you today. 99 designs.com people per hour.com crowdspring.com Toptal like short for top talent.com freelance auction.com. See how that could really really open it up especially like I said, if you're looking for affiliates on a particular topic you just put related and then a site that's perfect for you and it'll bring up loads of other sites, you know, in seconds that you could potentially try to get to be an affiliate for you.

[00:08:42] I have information on how to do that in other episodes on affiliate marketing. But but anyway, there's just a few ways to help yourself and speed things up when you search. And I'm going to put a link in the show notes to a site that gives you 20 of these search hacks If you just spend an hour with it, I'm swearing to you. You'll save hundreds of hours into the future and get much better search results. So there you go. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
