SUMMARY BY CHATGPT
In this episode, Tom Antion discusses YouTube chapters, a feature that allows users to divide their videos into segments with timestamps, improving navigation for viewers.
1. What are YouTube Chapters?
o Chapters let viewers jump to specific parts of a video using timestamps in the video description.
o This improves user experience by making content easier to access, though it might slightly reduce overall watch time.
2. Creating Chapters:
o YouTube offers two options:
Automatic Chapters: YouTube generates them based on its algorithm.
Manual Chapters: You create them by adding timestamps (e.g., 0:00 Intro, 0:15 Promo) in your video description.
o Manual chapters are more accurate and tailored to your content.
3. How to Add Manual Chapters:
o Navigate to YouTube Studio → Content → Select a video → Details.
o Include timestamps in the description in the format 0:00 [Title]. Repeat this process for each segment.
4. Why Use Chapters?
o Enhances viewer satisfaction by allowing them to find specific content quickly.
o Encourages viewers to return to your channel for its user-friendly format.
o May balance watch time as viewers revisit specific parts.
5. Additional Notes:
o This episode is part of a YouTube improvement series.
o Listeners are encouraged to explore Tom’s resources, including:
A free automation book (screwthecommute.com/automatefree).
His internet marketing school (IMTCVA.org), which offers marketable skills in as little as six months.
Stay tuned for the next episode, which will cover more tips to improve your YouTube channel!

Episode 945 – YouTube Chapters
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute, the entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multi-millionaire Tom Antion.
[00:00:24] Hey everybody! It's Tom here with episode 945 of Screw the Commute podcast. Today, we're going to talk about YouTube chapters. This is part of our YouTube series, a bunch of tips and tricks and settings that will make your YouTube channel better. Hope you didn't miss episode 944 that was on Automatic Concepts. Whether you should turn it on or off on your YouTube channel. All right, make sure you pick up a copy of our automation book at screwthecommute.com/automatefree and check out my mentor program at GreatInternetMarketingTraining.com. And also, my school could be the one of the best legacy gifts you could ever give yourself, or your children or your grandchildren to keep them out of the debt of a four year wasted college, when they could have a marketable skill in as little as six months. All right, check that out at IMTCVA.org.
[00:01:18] All right. So how do you get to work on YouTube chapters? And what are they? Well, you may have seen underneath a videos where they have different thumbnails and different times and what was being discussed at that part of the video. You know, it's a kind of a pain in the neck when you see a nice video. But there was one thing you wanted to review again, and you got to try to go through the whole video to see it. Well, in this case, a chapter lets you click on it and go right to that part of the video. Now, whether that's good or bad from your watch time, I can't say. But the thing is, you do want people to really like your your YouTube channel and it makes it easy for them to find stuff.
[00:02:07] And so they're probably going to come back more. Now you can either let YouTube make their own channels for you or you can tell where the channel is going to be or where where you, you, you know, if they they do it automatically and it's it's not really accurate. You can go in and make an exactly accurate place where the chapters are going to show up. All right. Well how do you do it. Well you go into your settings of your studio and then you go to content and then you select the video you want to work on. Then you click on details and you can always, you know, rewind it or listen to this again to go. Go there and you'll find that section about chapters. And you can turn it off or on. If you turn it on automatic, then they'll do it automatically for you. But if you turn it off, well, the chapters disappear, right? Well, no, you can do something about that. All you have to do is go into your description and you have to put like the time, like in the format of x colon x x. And so like when you start out zero colon zero zero then you're right next to it, like intro. And then maybe 15 seconds later you go zero colon. You do these, you know, one line each. Zero colon. 15. Let's say that's 15 seconds in. It's a promo for my school let's say. And then maybe 30s maybe that's a 15 second promo. So then you go zero colon 30 on the next line and then whatever the content is in that section, and maybe that goes on for three minutes.
[00:04:00] So then you could go three colon 30 and then the next piece of content. So that would be three minutes and 30s and then just so forth. You do that in the description and it automatically shows up as chapters. And they're very accurate because you pick them manually rather than have them done automatically. So that's basically about chapters. Yeah. They make it easy for people to find stuff on your thing. It might reduce your watch time somewhat, but I firmly believe when you make it easy and to to use your channel that people will come back and watch more videos and, and maybe they watch the whole thing and then they go to the chapter and click on it to watch, you know, watch that one section again. So that increases your watch time. See? So it's all good. So that's episode 945, part of our YouTube series of simple things you can do to improve your channel. So we've got more coming for you in the next couple of weeks. So watch out for them. And also check out my school at IMTCVA.org. I got to tell you, it's the the only licensed, dedicated internet marketing school. We change our curriculum sometimes daily because we keep up with things where you go to some class in some big university that's taught by somebody that never made a nickel on the internet, and that's what you get old stuff. So check it out at IMTCVA.org and I will catch you on the next episode. That's going to be about YouTube.
