Episode 883 – YouTube Playlists
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute. The entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money, with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multimillionaire, Tom Antion.

[00:00:24] Hey everybody, it's Tom here with episode 883. Screw the commute podcast. Today, we're going to talk about YouTube playlists and how important they are to you. And it's kind of tied to the last episode. Episode 882 was on how important watch time is to your channel, so that YouTube shows your videos to way, way, way more people. And any time you want to get to back episode, you go to screwthecommute.com, slash, then the episode number watch time was 882. Today is uh, playlist is 883. And make sure you grab a copy of our automation e-book at screwthecommute.com/automatefree. And of course, I want you to check out my mentor program, the longest running, most unique, most successful ever. Check it out at GreatInternetMarketingTraining.com.

[00:01:14] All right, let's get into playlists. Uh, this is really important. So that. Youtube can show your video to way more people now they. Youtube has been put in a really big emphasis on this, because all the social media wants you to keep people on there longer so they can sell more ads. That's the bottom line. I've been saying that for years. So it's better if they watch 4 or 5, 6 or 10 of your videos than just one. And if you make it easy for them, it's more likely that they're going to do that. Now, one of the things they've been doing is.

[00:01:53] Under your video. Let's say people are looking at one of your videos. You might have emailed and told them about it, but however they got there, they're watching one of your videos. If that video is in a playlist, YouTube is showing the name of the playlist, the title of the playlist under the title of the video they're watching so they can. If they like that video, they can click there into a playlist of a bunch of similar or related videos. So that's uh, again, a very simple thing. If you just take the time to start making playlists, you're going to increase your views for sure. No question about it. And one thing I should tell you is that other people's videos can be in your playlist. You can put any video on YouTube in your playlist. Now, is that a good idea? Well, maybe it is. If you put some big name videos in there to suck people in, but pretty much we want your watch time and your audience retention and all that stuff, which I covered in episode 882 to increase. So I suggest you stick with your videos. Now you can have a custom thumbnail for your playlist to make it interesting. And here's another thing that they they're doing now you can corroborate with other people or collaborate, I should say with other people.

[00:03:16] That means you could make a deal with another channel, that they can upload stuff to your playlist, and you can upload stuff to theirs. So both of you get cross promotion now and you can do it with multiple channels. It's not just one. So that's another cool way to take advantage of other people's channels that never heard of you. And the same thing. It's fair they're taking people from your they're not taking them away from you, but they're getting exposure to your people. So it's a fair deal. Just make sure that you are collaborating with good people because you don't want to be, uh, looked at as a schmuck if you collaborate with a schmuck. All right. Uh, let's see. So what you do is you go into your studio, you got to be logged in to your YouTube thing. And, and depending on when you're watching this, you would click on either content. I think the latest thing is content and then playlist. But sometimes there used to be a just a button that said playlist. And that's where you, uh, basically pick the videos that you want to have in your playlist. You got to pick a name for your playlist and make sure it's a descriptive name. So don't just put, uh, money making, just, uh, uh, put, you know, you can make a playlist more descriptive how to use affiliate marketing to make lots of money, you know, so it's more specific.

[00:04:43] And then a lot of the people that do this stuff don't understand that. You can make a description of your playlist. You know how you make a description under each video, you can have a description of your playlist and it shows up all over the place. So, uh, and it helps people make a decision if they want to mess with your, you know, check out your, uh, playlist or not. Now, another thing that they allow you to do now is to reorder the the videos in your playlist. So it used to be they'd just be thrown in there and whatever order you, you picked them. But now you can reorder and slide up and down and pick which ones you want people to see first. So that's another feature that's available now. And you might hear the term optimized playlist, which means that you have done keywords and description and good title for that I just mentioned for your playlist. Now there's a lot of settings you can deal with. One is add all option that makes it easy for you to add a bunch of videos at once. You can allow embedding, and this is a good idea to allow embedding. That way somebody else can embed your playlist in their website.

[00:06:02] Okay, now you may have heard me talk about I don't want you hosting and embedding YouTube videos on your website. That's a whole different story. We love YouTube. That's why I talk about it a lot. But once they're at your website, we want them to keep it at you. Keep them at your website by using a video player on your website. But that's not YouTube, so they can't easily go back and watch cat videos. But you do want to allow other people that like your playlist to embed them in their websites. That's perfectly fine because that's helping you out. You also can decide if now if you're doing manually reordering your videos, well, this doesn't work. But if you just don't want to mess with it and you want the newest, the latest video to show up at the first one in the playlist, there's a setting there you just says auto update to top. You just put turn that on and there it goes. Uh, let's see, I generally suggest you avoid series of videos. And the reason is, is because a YouTube video can only be in one series of, you know, so you're kind of limiting yourself unless it's something that it's absolutely they have to see. Video one, two, three, four, five and six. Uh, you might be limiting yourself.

[00:07:28] Also make sure you list it as public. Don't list it as private or unlisted because we want the public to be able to see it. And then once you get all this stuff done and learn how to do this, then you can send this link in an email to your email list now, or you can put it on your social media. And certainly many of you have already just sent individual videos. But this is even better because if you send it out and they watch one video, good for you. But if they watch four or 5 or 10 of your videos, that really increases your watch time in a hurry. So. So pay attention to playlists. There's plenty of YouTube videos that'll show you the little details, but basically you go into your studio, give it a name, give it a description, pick the videos you want in it, and let it rip. All right. There's there's other little details to to get the most out of it, but, uh, this is important that you just do it. You know, being just doing it even pitifully is going to do you better than not doing it at all. So that's playlists. So check those out and check out my mentor program. Greatinternetmarketingtraining.com and I'll catch you on the next episode. See you later.
