Episode 821 – Five Emails That Made Money

Today, I'm going to give you a breakdown on five emails that made money along with all the explanation of what I did, what the purpose of it was, the psychology of it, the whole bit. So I'm going to tell you, like, the reason for the promotion and the subject line and then the body of the email. And then I'm going to explain why I did what I did. All right. Here's number one reason for promotion was to promote my podcast which led to an e-book sale. All right. Subject line podcast colon quality ebooks in eight hours or less. And then they all start, dear, whatever their name is. I put out a quality book this weekend which took six hours to write. This is the body of that email. Some of you may be familiar with the fact I wrote another one in a four hour layover at the airport in Las Vegas that brought in $3.9 million so far. Okay, that was the email. All right. Now here's the explanation for that. Well the email promises that you can have a high quality product and have it fast. These are big benefits that I promised them in the subject line that people love, and that causes them to open the email.
[00:03:30] Now, I showed proof that I had just done it myself, and that I've done it before for very big money with the 3.9 million. All that. Now this shows both that the idea is current and it's not a flash in the pan. It's been done multiple times. Now, I kept the sales resistance down by leading the visitor to my free podcast, telling them all about it. This is not only promotes my podcast, but listening to the episode leads people to the sale of the e-book. Then I threw in a PS and that's of course the most read parts of most emails with very popular episodes of the podcast. Yeah, it was not as concerned. Yes, this made money and sold e-books, but I was not as concerned with the e-book sale in this email as I was in getting someone hooked on my podcast. If they hear my podcast over and over, they're constantly exposed to great information and also to my mentor program and school, which both make up for a couple thousand e-book sales. All right. If you join those. So also, another big overriding principle is that people love a sale. And so when they got to the e-book and it was on sale, they bought it. Okay, that's number one. All right. Number two, reason for the promotion. This was directly to sell a new e-book.
[00:04:54] Brand new e-book subject line. Last chance flash sale. Brand new e-book. Another subject line that went the day before actually was subject line 24 hour flash sale. Brand new book. And then, dear so-and-so, I just finished my new book, How to Be in Front of a million Warm Prospects in the Next 90 days. Myself and my students have made millions of bucks with this concise and simple idea. Regular prices will be $27. Flash sale price is $17. Grab it now. Before the price goes up, click here Tom Antion. All right, so that's the second email. And this is the explanation for that. Well the term flash sale is becoming more recognizable online. It means it's a surprise sale that appears and disappears in a flash. If someone wants to take advantage of the sale, they have to move quickly. Additional urgency was added to the subject line by saying last chance. Now it would have done an email the day before that didn't have the term last chance. It's the one that that said 24 hour flash sale. All right. Also, brand new was put in. That means it's something they haven't seen before from me. You know, people get lots of emails from me over many years. So this brand new says, hey, Tom's got something new out there and it's worth opening the email to check it out. See, I'm known for webinar replays and the the person may have already seen one of my replays or felt that I was just repromoting an older book.
[00:06:42] Brand new, wiped out all those reservations and caused them to click to see what the book was about. Now we frequently use. And if you've heard my copywriting information, we talk about the Zeigarnik principle, which is raising curiosity. One of the most powerful things ever you could learn about. You should look that up in some of my past episodes. But anyway, once they're inside the email, I revealed the title, which had a massive benefit of being in front of a million warm prospects in the next 90 days. This is a great title. It really grabbed people, and of course, you have to come through with your promise in your product or people won't trust you anymore. So that book absolutely does come through with that. Now, I also mentioned myself and my students have made millions of dollars with this idea. People want to know is not just big shot Tom that can do the idea. They want to know if regular people like them can do the idea. All right, that's email too. All right. Email three reason for the promotion to recruit affiliates, which means a lot of money because they they promote me and then they get a commission, but they only get a commission if they've created a sale. Okay. Subject line. But camp grads get the videos plus affiliate commissions. Dear so and so. As a boot camp graduate, this means you attended live or got the videos or audios in the past.
[00:08:14] You get the videos of the upcoming bootcamp with my compliments. I'll tell you about boot camp after we end the explanation. You can also attend the live event with a no show deposit that you get back at lunch. Tons have changed since you last attended and I know you want to keep up. Also, why not become an affiliate and make a 50% commission on new people signing up for the live event, or the videos or my mentor program? Full details of the event are. Well, a little background is in order here. See, I have the longest continuously running internet marketing seminar in existence.
[00:09:44] There were about three of us in the beginning, and I think the other two are long gone. At least they haven't been running continuously like I have. The seminars are very serious and comprehensive seminar, but it's got a funny name. Buttcamp. See, in mid 1996 I was doing so well selling online. People started begging me to teach them and they said, Tom Tom, you've got to do a bootcamp. And see, I had come from a comic background and I was not about to do a bootcamp like everybody else was. And as I was thinking about the name for my new seminar, I was thinking, you know, I'm sitting here on my rear end making all this money. I'll call it bootcamp. It caught on and I've done them in 11 countries around the world. But but in London, they they made me call it bum camp instead of butt camp. So the deal with bootcamp is that if you pay once, you come forever for free for updates. This keeps people coming back to me for their internet information over and over over many years. And many of them decided to join my mentor program, and this email was specifically targeted to bootcamp graduates not only to tell them bootcamp was coming up again, but also to recruit them as affiliates to bring others to bootcamp so they could earn a commission. And when your email is going out to a highly targeted people who definitely know you and your reputation, you don't have to waste any space on showing your credibility.
[00:11:15] Everything should be geared towards benefiting them. I made a big emphasis on how important it was to come to get the latest updates, and I made a big deal about their 50% affiliate commission for referring someone, and I reminded them about it being the last day for Early Bird, which put urgency into them to promote it. And also they could put urgency into prospects because it was the last day for early bird pricing. And they were also reminded of the big payday for a mentor program referral. And I signed it to. They absolutely know who I am. Tom Antion and to is more personal and more conversational. Say okay, that was number three. All right. Number four, reason for the promotion to promote the replay of a Facebook Live training session where nothing was for sale. But I gave away a training PDF that went on to promote my mentor program. So the subject line in this case was I think you'll be sorry. Dot dot dot. And then as soon as they opened it, there was three more dots. These are called an ellipsis. And it said so basically it reads off of the subject line, but you had to open it to read the rest of the sentence. So I think you'll be sorry if you don't know all the things I taught you about YouTube in yesterday's Facebook Live.
[00:12:49] And that's when then after they read the first sentence, I put the dear so-and-so, I covered sample. I covered seven simple fixes that literally could triple the success of your channel rather quickly. You put time and effort into making videos. Don't you think you should gather some expert advice on making sure that that most people see them? Here's the link to watch any time. Explanation for number four. The subject line was pure Zeigarnik principle. People would think I'll be sorry for what they had to open the email to find out. I then revealed the topic and give a specific number of tips. I'm going to that I'm going to give them. You always want specifics, specific cells and general does. Okay. Also, for some reason, I don't know why odd numbers work better. That doesn't mean I won't throw in extra tips and give them more than I promised. In fact, I always do. But this sends the message that you always get more than you bargained for when dealing with Tom Antion, and it builds a great reputation for yourself. This is the explanation of that. That short Facebook email, a sentence I put in there was. Here's the link to watch any time the word anytime was used to let them know they could watch immediately while they're excited about the topic.
[00:14:22] Or they could. If they were busy, they still had a chance to watch it later. The faster you can get someone to consume your stuff, the better off you are. See, the longer things go, the more chance the person will forget about your email. I mean, they have their regular life to deal with, and in the meantime, they're getting pummeled with hundreds of other messages to distract them. But frequently I'll give them a bigger chance so I don't lose them altogether right off the bat. Next sentence was there's nothing for sale in this training. This phrase was totally truthful and knocked down. Any thoughts that the training would just be a big sales pitch? It wasn't, but it still promoted my mentor program with the free giveaway PDF. That was a training tool so that they could make one for themselves, but it was all based around my program, so if they wanted to get into my program, everything was right there in front of them, and then they could duplicate it if they were selling programs or, and or they could join mine. Okay. The last one reason for promotion number five is to get more people to show up to my Facebook Live subject line today. All caps maximize YouTube 5 p.m. eastern EST. Dear so-and-so Facebook Live 5 p.m. eastern today.
[00:15:46] All caps seven tips to maximize your YouTube channel and quotation marks. It's the title and then parentheses. This includes several new tips you probably haven't heard of. There are simple ways you can really jack up your video views and engagement. Most likely, nobody ever taught them to you. In this fast paced Facebook Live, I'll give you a quick seven point checklist of ways to easily improve your old videos and what to do when you shoot new videos for your channel. And then I put the link live link to the event. I'll talk to you in a few hours. Tom Antion P.S after you've clicked the link above, if you see the word going, go ahead and click it so Facebook will know you're going to show up. All right. Explanation for that email. See, that was the email that was prior to the last one. I just showed you the follow up email for the replay. So this email was before that and it was sent to promote the same event before it actually happened. See, getting more people to actually show up for your live events increases what they call engagement. This means Facebook will show your event to more people. My live event also gave away a training document that featured my mentor program, which I told you about in the last one. The PS in this case was designed to get more people to show interest before the event. See, this tells Facebook more people were interested in my event, which would make Facebook show the event announcement to more people prior to the event actually happening.
[00:17:29] So again, the more people who actually show up, the more engagement and comments you'll get. And this all sends a message to Facebook that you are worth increasing your visibility to show your stuff to more people. All right. So there's five emails.
