SUMMARY BY CHATGPT

Tom Antion’s main message is that most people already have a monetizable skill or knowledge, even if they don’t realize it—and that skill can become a low-risk side hustle done from home, without quitting a full-time job.
Key points:
• You don’t need to start a full business or take big risks; a side hustle can fit evenings, weekends, or lunch breaks.
• Many people already possess valuable knowledge they casually use but never think to charge for.
• Antion shares a real example of paying someone $50/hour to teach him OBS software—proof that ordinary skills can generate real income.
• Zoom (even the free version) is enough to deliver most services; no fancy website is required.
• Payments can be simple (PayPal, Zelle, etc.).
Examples of monetizable skills mentioned:
• Teaching languages (including ESL)
• Tech help (phones, computers, Excel, Photoshop)
• Creative skills (music, painting, photography, writing, poetry)
• Lifestyle skills (cooking, baking, meal planning, fitness, yoga, meditation)
• Hobbies (dog training, gardening, woodworking, fishing, golf, tennis)
• Professional skills (public speaking, finance basics, interviewing, homeschooling guidance, interior design, organizing)
Big takeaway:
• You don’t need a second job—or a commute—to make extra money.
• A side hustle can often match or exceed part-time job income, with less stress and more flexibility.
• The hardest part isn’t the technology—it’s recognizing your own value and taking action.
Bottom line:
You are the side hustle. Identify what you know, package it simply, and start earning from home—fast.

Episode 1070 – You Are The Side Hustle
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute. The entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money, with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multimillionaire, Tom Antion.

[00:00:24] Hey everybody, it's Tom here with episode 1070 of Screw the Commute podcast. Today we're going to talk about you are the side hustle if you need extra money. This is a good episode for you. I hope you didn't miss episode 1069. That was on a different, newest, newer way. To sign in to all the different websites you have to sign into called Passkeys. Anytime you want to get to a back episode, you go to screwthecommute.com, slash, then the episode number. Passkeys was 1069 and today you are the side hustle is 1070. All right, pick up a copy of our automation book. It's screwthecommute.com/automatefree. Make sure you get version 3.0. That's the latest. And check out my mentor program. Greatinternetmarketingtraining.com and my school IMTCVA.org. That's the only licensed dedicated internet and digital marketing school in the country, probably the world. And it is certified to operate by SCHEV, the State Council on Higher Education in Virginia. But you don't have to be in Virginia because it's distance learning and quality distance learning. We've got people making money before they even graduate.

[00:01:35] All right. Let's get into you are the side hustle. So here's the deal. I know a lot of you out there are not ready to go full time in some business and risk a lot of stuff, and you're need to keep the bills paid by going to your regular. Well, I don't like to cuss on these things, but j-o-b. You know what I mean? That regular nasty word.

[00:01:58] Okay, So there's bound to be something inside you or something you could develop that could be a side hustle right from your home computer where people give you money. Okay, I'll give you an example of this. And the guy didn't even realize what what happened? So I'm getting ready to do a new streaming show. This, uh, this first quarter, it'll probably roll out maybe. Maybe second quarter, I don't know. But I wanted to learn how to use this piece of software. And I could tell by looking that this other guy was using it, and he was an older guy. And, uh, so I emailed him and I said, hey, uh, how much do you charge to help me set this program up? Obs is the is the program. And he said, well, you know, I usually just help people, but, you know, I, you know, I got a lot of knowledge. Very valuable. I said, how about 50 bucks an hour? And he says, okay. So he never saw it coming. He was he's getting 50 bucks an hour and some of the other people were charging 500 bucks for an hour. And so I said, nah, that's that can't possibly be worth it with some of these guys. So for 50 bucks an hour, he got on evenings, weekends and helped me learn how to use the software and if I had any glitches, he said, help me troubleshoot them and all that stuff.

[00:03:29] So he had this knowledge that he didn't even know was monetizable. He just was using it for himself. See? So I've got a massive list here. I don't know, 30, 40 things on here just to get your your brain flowing on things that you could do online and probably zoom or zoom is mostly how, how people would do it nowadays. Even the free version, if you keep it below 40 minutes, you wouldn't even have to invest in the paid version of zoom to do it, but I got this massive list that's in no particular order, and maybe some of them I'll stop and talk about a little bit, but you probably have knowledge that somebody else is willing to pay for. And like I said, this is side hustle. I'm not. I guess you could do this full time, but and I do know a lady that does she teaches English as a second language to Russian people full time. See? Um, so yes, there's money in this, and it might be enough to help you make your car payment, help you make your mortgage payment, your rent. Uh, be able to go out more, you know, buy stuff for your kids. I mean, there's all kinds of things you could do with little extra money, especially if you didn't have to leave the home to do it. See, you can do it in the evenings. Weekends, you can set your own schedule when you're willing to do these things so it doesn't conflict with your job.

[00:04:54] I mean, you could do it. There's been some people do them at lunchtime. That's the only time they do they instead of eating lunch, they do a training session with somebody and it doesn't have to be one on one, although it could be. The training I got from that guy was one on one, but could be you could have group sessions and get multiple people giving you money for an hour training once a week or twice or three times a week, whatever it is. I mean, it's just it's when you hear this list of things, you'll say, wow, there's all kinds of things that could be doing. And you might think, well, I'm no good at things. Well, there's probably something, a hobby that you do or some skill that you have or you're good at, you know, this, that and the other. But okay, let me get into the list here. So one is languages. I just mentioned that ladies teaching English as a second language. Hey you can also do that in China. Chinese and other countries will pay you and you don't have to speak Chinese. I have one of my students didn't speak Chinese, but they don't want you to speak Chinese. They want the entire thing to be in English. See? So you don't have to be a Chinese speaker to to teach Chinese people how to speak English. Hey, dog training people are doing dog training where they get a webcam and and they see what you're doing with your dog and give you tips and and all kinds of music, guitar lessons, trumpet, drums, all these things are being taught online now.

[00:06:24] Piano, painting. People are doing painting lessons online, either one on one or group cooking, baking, meal planning. I know the the a lot of the bodybuilders do meal planning teach other bodybuilders how to do it. But I mean it's good for for people with two jobs, you know, to plan their meals out so that their family can eat well. Uh, even though they're both very busy cooking, baking, you know, all kinds of stuff. But meal planning is a is one that's important. Sewing and crocheting are lessons are being taught online again. You don't have to have a full blown website for this. You could advertise it on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and things like that to get clients and just, you know, put word of mouth out there. Photography and videography easily taught online. Here's one. Probably I need some course in feng shui and organizing. Those are actually kind of related, but two different things you could teach online. People can take pictures of their home and you can evaluate them and give them tell them what to do. Uh, if you're into that stuff. Uh, woodworking. Yeah. I had a roommate in college that had no business being in college. He was a football player recruit and flunked out eventually, but he was a master woodworker, so he had no business being in college and wasting his time there.

[00:07:56] And like I said, he flunked out before he even played in a game. So Woodward. But he was a great woodworker. He could walk by his store, look at a piece of furniture and go and recreate it better than the original. So that's that's a skill that he had. Oh, computer skills and phone skills. You could probably make a fortune just teaching how people to use their either iPhones or androids. You could teach both, but. But iPhones would keep you busy. I mean, I can't believe that the people that sell the phones don't have these classes. Like every day, just packed full of people on how to use their cell phones. I have, I don't know, 20 or 30 different episodes to screw the commute just on iPhone tips, you know, and the same ones that probably work on Android. But I don't know how to do them right. So, uh, let's see other computer skills teaching Excel, teaching Photoshop, those kinds of things. Writing prose, how to stuff is easily salable, but the teaching of it is how to write. Poetry is another popular thing. Oh, back on the dog training. I got a friend that used to work in my protection business, but he teaches, uh, just pet dogs. Uh, they have this whole thing where people bring their little fluffy pet dogs to learn how to sniff and find things, you know, and they pay a guy a lot of money just to, uh, teach these classes.

[00:09:30] Uh, meditation. There's an easy one. You could just sit there and go. Mhm. And that's what I would do. All right. I'm not knocking you meditators out there. But but you wouldn't have to come up with a lot of uh um, a lot of text on that one or a lot of things to say. Yoga and other exercises. Yeah. I had a student that teaches at home. Yoga. Um, Weightlifting. Same thing. You know, working out exercise stuff, journaling and scrapbooking were popular at one time, but probably enough people out there that would still pay you a little bit. You know, some of these things would command more money per hour than others, you know? So I'm not sure those would pull big money for scrapbooking and journalism. But, you know, people pay for all kinds of hobbies. Um, golf, you know, tennis. A lot of this stuff could be taught through zoom, you know? Hey, let's see your swing. Let's, you know, people put a webcam on themselves. Um. Other hobbies? Fishing, how to tie fly fish. You know, those little flies that people do? Uh, like I said, tennis, golf, uh, public speaking. I've been teaching that for, I don't know how many years now since 1994 or something like that. So, yeah. Public speaking. Now other things. Finance. Maybe you need help with budgeting in your family or, uh, you know, tips on finance, refinancing or refinancing your home or how to get the best insurance rates.

[00:11:10] Um, speaking of homes interior design, you can take pictures of your space, and some interior designer will give you options on what to do about it and how to fix it up. Nice a flower. Flower arranging is another hobby. Some people do and they grow flowers. Their gardening is another one that's very big. People spend a lot of money on it. Hey, home schooling. There's a big rush to get people out of these pitiful public schools, but the parents don't know what to do or how to handle it with work and everything. And so you teach them how to do that, and they pay you for that, right? Anything is worth it. Rather than send them to those pitiful public schools. Um, interviewing techniques to get jobs, car maintenance. I mean, I just I could go on for an hour and hours, you know, but hope this, this episode was to get your mind thinking, hey, I could make a significant amount of money staying at home, uh, even, or working around my regular job as a side hustle and bring in a lot of money. And, you know, you don't even have to get a credit card thing. You could do PayPal, you know, or Zelle or, you know, the different types of ways to collect the money. Okay. So anyway, you are the side hustle.

[00:12:30] So I don't want to hear any excuses like, oh, there's nothing I can't get a second job. Who would want a second job? Who would even want a first job is what I'm in my in my opinion. Well, screw the commute, but, uh, second job? Hell no. You probably can come up with something that you could make an equivalent amount of money, especially with regard to the time of going to work and coming back and so forth, Even that Amazon flex thing where you, you know, deliver for Amazon, well, then you got to run the crap out of your car and, and have dogs biting you and, you know, and, and people stealing packages from you. I don't know all the crap they get into, but the stuff I'm telling you now, every single one of them could be done from your home. Even the woodworking. If you're a woodworker, you got a shop that you could set up some cameras in, say so. Um, so you are the side hustle. So there you go. Uh, go back through this. Listen to it. Think about, okay, what could I do? And then take the steps and you'll have some money coming in pretty quick. All right, so that's my story and I'm sticking to it. Check out my mentor program. Greatinternetmarketingtraining.com and my school IMTCVA.org. And we'll catch you on the next episode. See you later.
