941 – New video feature you can use: Tom talks Facebook Auto Clipping

Today, we're going to talk about a brand new feature on Facebook called Facebook Auto Clipping. Now it's so brand new, even the instructions to do it on Facebook were hard to understand, and I'm sure it's going to evolve over time, but it's going to be a really good thing that helps you out a lot. It's called auto clipping, and it's going to allow you to create clips and reels and vertical videos from your horizontal videos. Plus, you can let other people clip your stuff and share it on Facebook. But again, it's so brand new, I don't have all the details but I want to let you know about it.

SUMMARY BY CHATGPT

In this episode of Screw the Commute, Tom Antion introduces Facebook's new Auto Clipping feature. This tool allows users to create vertical clips, reels, and videos from horizontal content directly within Facebook, eliminating the need for third-party software.
Key Highlights:
1. Feature Overview:
o Auto Clipping converts horizontal videos into vertical formats for platforms like Facebook Reels and Instagram.
o Users can let others clip and share their videos on Facebook.
o The feature is currently in its early stages and may evolve over time.
2. Requirements to Use Auto Clipping:
o Facebook account must be at least 60 days old.
o Users need at least 100 followers.
o Live video clipping requires shooting on mobile in vertical format.
3. Video Optimization Tips:
o When shooting videos, keep the subject centered to ensure it remains visible when converted to vertical format.
o Although traditional video framing places subjects off-center, Auto Clipping may cut off parts of the video.
4. Functionality:
o Users receive a prompt to “grow your reach by clipping videos into reels” when uploading eligible content.
o Clips can be stored in a library for reuse, although it's unclear if they can be repurposed for other platforms.
5. Challenges:
o Directions provided by Facebook are somewhat confusing and contradictory.
o Live video clipping may require waiting until the stream ends for editing, though details remain unclear.
6. Potential Benefits:
o Saves time by eliminating the need to shoot separate horizontal and vertical videos.
o Helps repurpose content for better reach and engagement on Facebook and Instagram.
Closing Thoughts: Tom anticipates improvements to the feature as it rolls out further and recommends experimenting with it if you qualify. He wraps up by promoting his resources, including his mentor program and internet marketing school, before signing off.
This episode serves as an introduction to a promising tool for content creators, with more details likely to emerge as the feature matures.

Episode 941 – Facebook Auto Clipping
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute, the entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multi-millionaire Tom Antion.

[00:00:24] Hey everybody! It's Tom here with episode 941 of Screw the Commute podcast. All right. This is episode 941. Hope you didn't miss episode 940. That was one of my many phone tips that can save you enormous amounts of time when you are working on your cell phone or tablet. Okay, make sure you pick up a copy of our automation e-book at screwthecommute.com/automatefree and check out my mentor program at GreatInternetMarketingTraining.com. Plus, if you want to give a great present to a child or a grandchild, check out My School Be the Best Thing You Ever Did for them to give them a usable skill that can make them a great career at IMTCVA.org. That's my internet marketing training center of Virginia. But it's distance learning so they don't have to be in Virginia. How about that? All right. Let's get into this.

[00:02:01] This is called auto clipping. Now to use these features right now. All right. Usually after you know they'll open it up to to more to everybody later. But to use it right now your your account has to be 60 days old. You have to have at least 100 followers. And if you're going to do the stuff from your live Facebook videos, you have to use mobile in vertical format. All right. But anyway, what's the first part of this that intrigued me? And there are other programs that claim to do this already that you can pay for and turn a landscape video, which is the way we used to do it forever into a vertical video for reels, Facebook or Instagram Reels. Now It's funny because in the old days, if you did a vertical video, everybody would make fun of you because there was no it was just stupid to do vertical videos and then came along Facebook stories and then reels and TikTok and whatever else they got nowadays. But what's really nice is if you could take a horizontal video that's for YouTube, not YouTube shorts, but regular YouTube videos, and break them down into little pieces and turn them into shorts and reels and everything else. But anyway, for Facebook, though, they have the tool built in. Now, as long as you meet those parameters and I suggest that once it rolls out and they get all the bugs out of it, that everybody will be able to do it. That's the way. That's the way I feel it's going to go. Okay, so one thing you should keep in mind nowadays anytime you're shooting video is, you know, we've been teaching people forever to put the subject, you know, like in the two thirds, like if it was a tic tac toe board, they would be in one of the top right crossings.

[00:04:08] So off center, in other words, for your subjects and that it's a more interesting video and it leaves room to pop in graphics. However, if you want to take advantage of these kinds of things and make the clip a vertical clip out of a horizontal video in most cases, unless they have done some sophisticated things with these these tools they're giving you, you're going to you're going to only you're going to be cut off on half of the right or left side of the video. So I would say in the beginning, until we make sure that the tool will allow you to move things in the video frame left and right, that you try to keep yourself in the center of the video. That way, when it's turned vertical, you're still in the in the video instead of off to the side somewhere. So I'm hoping that they can come up with a way that even if it's off to the side, that you can just grab it and slide it over into the middle of the the vertical video. And those of you lost right now, don't worry. This is a good thing. And it was such a hassle to shoot two different versions of a video. But now you don't have to do it, or you don't have to buy an extra tool if you're using Facebook.

[00:05:28] Okay. So what's going to happen is, is when you qualify for this and you go to put a video up, you're going to get a message that says, and this is I quote, grow your reach by clipping videos into reels. And then you click on it and it'll take you to the tools to do it. So what can you do with this? Well, like I said, the landscape video can be made into vertical smaller clips, so that's good. Now when you get into the live stuff, you have to have shot it. If you're if you're doing a Facebook Live and you want the viewers and yourself to be able to do clips out of your live settings, then you must shoot on mobile in the vertical format. And from what I can, you know, I read through all the instructions. From what I can ascertain is that if you want to turn them into clips, you've got to wait till the end of the video. I don't know why that would make sense, but okay. And I'm not even positive that what I just said is correct. I mean, the the directions were kind of convoluted, but apparently if you give permission, your viewers during the live thing can turn that video into clips. That's at least what I was able to understand from it. Maybe they have to wait till the end. I don't know, it seems like it seems like if they were doing it live, that you say something really great. Well, it's already past before they would start clipping, so it seems like they would have to go review your live video and make clips.

[00:07:13] But anyway, it's coming and I'm sure there's going to be a lot of YouTube videos with people, you know, digging in deep on this and showing you the exact details. You can do it now if you qualify. But again, I read through all of the the meta and the help file and all the directions, and it seemed like some of them were contradictory. And then you can store your clips in a clip library so that you can reuse them again. Now, can you reuse them on other platforms? Uh, That wasn't clear. I'm sure they're not going to promote that as a big deal. They want you to share them on Facebook. I'm hoping that they end up in MP4 format or the new MP5 is coming, but none of this is for sure at this point. From my point of view anyway, I haven't dug deep enough, but it's coming and I like it because it's always been a hassle to shoot two different versions of video where in this way you shoot it wide and then you turn pieces of it vertical. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it. This is a real quick one today, but that's something that's coming that could be very helpful for you. And again check out my mentor program. Check out my school and I will catch you on the next episode. I guess I'll see you on Facebook if you're still over there. Catch you later.
