Summary by ChatGPT

In Episode 929 of the Screw the Commute podcast, host Tom Antion kicks off his "Why I Don’t Waste Time" series by discussing why he doesn't waste time on artificial intelligence (AI). While acknowledging AI as a significant technological advancement, he warns against jumping into new, unproven technology without careful consideration. Drawing from his long experience with internet trends, he highlights past tech fads that failed, like Myspace and the dot-com bust, and emphasizes his philosophy of "dull edge technology"—using proven, stable tools rather than cutting-edge, untested ones.

He advises against spending money on AI programs from unreliable sources, citing potential legal risks (e.g., copyright lawsuits over AI-generated content). While basic AI tools like ChatGPT can be useful for generating ideas, he discourages using AI for tasks like writing books or creating graphics due to potential legal and financial repercussions.

The episode concludes with a teaser for upcoming topics in the series and a promotion of Antion’s internet marketing mentor program and licensed online school for digital marketing.

Episode 929 – Why I Don’t Waste Time On AI
[00:00:08] Welcome to Screw the Commute. The entrepreneurial podcast dedicated to getting you out of the car and into the money, with your host, lifelong entrepreneur and multimillionaire, Tom Antion.

[00:00:24] Hey everybody! It's Tom here with episode 929 of Screw the Commute podcast. Today, is the beginning of the Why I Don't Waste Time series. I don't even know how many parts it's going to be to this series, because I don't want to waste time figuring it out before I do this episode. Okay, so this one's going to be why I don't waste time on artificial intelligence or AI. Now, I hope you didn't miss episode 928. That was the perils of done for you programs don't get sucked into that. We call them done to you not done for you. That was 928. Anytime you want to get to a back episode, you go to screwthecommute.com, slash, and then the episode number. 928 was done to you programs, and also pick up a copy of our automation book at screwthecommute.com/automatefree, and check out our mentor program at GreatInternetMarketingTraining.com. And I think I mentioned to get to a back episode, you go to screwthecommute.com, slash, and then the episode number. I think I said that a minute ago.

[00:01:29] All right. Now in this episode, there's no way I'm downplaying artificial intelligence or AI. It is one of the biggest things that's hit for many, many years from my perspective. Keep in mind, I've been here since the beginning of the commercial internet. 1994, pretty much seven days a week. So I've been seeing a lot of stuff.

[00:01:54] Okay, I remember Myspace was the end all be all of the world. Just nothing could ever be better than that. Where is it now? I remember the dot com bust where every idiot teenager could come up with an idea, and more idiot investors would give them enormous amounts of money for pool tables and, I don't know, catering and and I don't know, you know, putting indoor golf courses, all the stupid shit that they spent the money on and the ideas were stupid and they blew up and everybody lost their shirt. I remember that I was through that. I didn't lose anything because I didn't get sucked in on these kinds of things. I've been through Facebook sucking everybody in to to get likes and followers and then charging you to reach them. I could see that coming from a mile away. No company can exist like that, just totally everything for free. Yeah, they got to make money somehow to stay in business, and then they would charge you eventually to reach those people. It started gradually where, you know, if you put a post out, most people would see it that your followers. But then it started declining. Declining? Declining. You're lucky now, even if a half a percent of your followers see you, you're lucky. And chances are it's less than that. And it's declining. Unless you pay. And how do you pay? Well, you could pay by having a pro level engagement with all these people. You get rewarded for that.

[00:03:30] But most people are never going to reach that level. I'm not at that level because I don't want to be at that level. I'll tell you why in a minute. Or you do paid ads. And so that's what the bulk of the people do if they want to reach their followers, or they just put a bunch of stuff up that goes nowhere and they get no engagement and they don't pay and it just sits there, nobody sees it. And I've been through all of the the minor fads over the years that come and go. And every day now since this AI thing hit, I get bombarded with some dinky AI program run by some third world country person who will be out of business right after the launch period, where they suck $27 or $37 from a bunch of people that don't know any better, and then they're out of business. So having been through all of this made me come up with the saying, I use dull edge technology. That's what I teach my students. That's what I've been living my entire career, because I don't get sucked in easily on stuff. Now, what's dull edge technology? Well, it's stuff that's proven. See? Cutting edge or bleeding edge? You know, it's called that for a reason. Okay. It cost the most money. It's got the most glitches, the most customer service complaints. See, I wait until something is proven before getting behind it fully. See, my reputation is not.

[00:05:06] Oh, he's the cutting edge guy. No, my reputation is. He's the salt, you know. His advice is solid. It works. So you're going to waste enormous time and money chasing cutting edge stuff. Maybe you won't have a reputation of being fancy and sucking in a lot of people that are going to cause you trouble and complain because the stuff you told them didn't work. But guess what? Your bank account will grow instead of shrink by if you don't waste your stuff on this, right? So yes, use basic ChatGPT get a little bit of knowledge. Don't spend any money on this stuff. You can. Yeah, it can save you some time. Don't write books with it. You can get outlines for books and ideas for books, but don't do all the things that it claims it will do. I'm don't even make graphics with it because there's lawsuits already being filed, you know, on all kinds of things because you can do stuff with AI that is against copyright. So if some portion of your picture resembled some famous person artist, they're going to sue you. It's already there's been a lawsuit for voices. Probably Joe Rogan is involved because I hear his voice on all kinds of stuff that he probably did not promote. And I think Scarlett Johansson sued over her voice being used on some ChatGPT thing. See? So be careful with this stuff. You can get, you know, you can just lose, you know, everything by using these powerful tools incorrectly.

[00:06:51] So watch for the next parts in this series. I know for sure I've got. Don't waste your time on customer service. Don't waste your time writing books. Don't waste your time on website design. Don't waste your time on social media. So now that doesn't mean I don't do all this stuff, all right? But I don't want you to waste your time doing it, all right? That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. Check out my mentor program. Greatinternetmarketingtraining.com. And also, if you have any connection to young people that really want to get into internet and digital marketing. I have the only license dedicated school on this topic. And, you know, there's classes and universities that run by people that never made a nickel online. All right. So check it out. That's IMTCVA.org. Give me a call. We've got scholarships available. We finance for you. You don't have to go out and get loans you know. So it's a beautiful thing. It's been running about 13 years and it's the only one in existence. You hear other people calling themselves a university. That's a that's fake. They have no credentials. They have no licensing to use that kind of term university. So so don't get sucked into that kind of stuff. Go for the real thing. All right. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. We'll catch you on the next episode. See you later.
